Grassy Mountain Project
In spring of 2019 & 2020, Core Drilling was involved in the Grassy Mountain Project of the Riversdale Resources operations in Blairmore, Alberta. The scope of work included a vast number of boreholes with a wide range of difficult drilling conditions such as shallow bedrock, gravels, cobbles and even some historical rail tunnels. Core Drilling’s team was able to navigate the difficult terrain and drilling conditions with success using our HQ3 coring tooling, ODEX casing advancement, tri-cone casing advancement, air rotary and solid stem for the overburden. While there were some challenges on site that required problem solving, the project overall was a success and has become a flagship project for our team. |
“The team at Core Drilling was professional and courteous on site. They were eager to overcome obstacles with problem solving on site and worked well as a team with the consultant and the Riversdale staff. We would be happy to work with them again on any upcoming projects.” - Dave Chursinoff, Construction Manager (Riversdale Resources)
Area Based Closure Programs
Core Drilling has been a primary drilling contractor in support of our clients' Area Based Closure (ABC) programs over the years. We were solicited for drilling services for the 2017 ABC pilot projects with Husky Energy in the Athabasca region and Canadian Natural Resources in the Tommy Lakes and Chinchaga regions in North Eastern British Columbia and Alberta respectively. As the industry has shifted focus towards more ABC programs, Core Drilling has continued to evolve our fleet and team towards improving efficiencies both in the field and in office. We have successfully completed several ABCs throughout southern, central and northern Alberta as well as NE BC for clients including: ARC Resources, CNRL, Husky Energy, Shell Canada, Orphan Well Association and Petronas, to name a few. |

Southern Alberta Wind Farm
In 2018, Core Drilling was retained by Barr Engineering as the geotechnical drilling contractor for a proposed wind farm near Medicine Hat, Alberta. Over the course of a month, Core Drilling advanced boreholes for over 50 wind turbines, 4 substations and 4 ancillary structures for a total of over 1200 meters drilled. The scope of work included HQ3 coring, piezometer installation and SPT sampling and provided challenging terrain and drilling conditions for our crews. Overall the project was a success and resulted in the identification of renewables as a new area of growth for Core Drilling.
